Wine country is synonymous with a relaxed afternoon in an idyllic setting of lovely vineyards surrounded by petite hills where food is nibbled and wine is guzzled. But I have to admit, while this countryside in California is world renowned for its wines, I have always visited it to seek tranquility in the laid back natural beauty that the region has to offer. A few weeks back I visited this region to see it transition from a busy, bountiful summer into a sluggish, post-harvest winter hoping to catch some autumn mood in the vineyards and boy, was I not disappointed!
Row after row of vines dressed in myriad shades of yellows, oranges and reds feel as if marching bands are bidding farewell to the summer in unison! Nature is showering colors for the hard work and efforts put in by all humans to make the most of its beautiful gift. As one drives past vineyard after vineyard, the sights of long stretches of colorful rows perpendicular to the road come in view one after the other at a brisk pace, evoking a sense of visualizing the music that would come out of a piano as one moves the finger from the keys at one end to the other. In the soft light around sunrise and sunset, the colors come to life with their soft vibrance adding magic to an already serene setting.
Sitting on the porch of a winery, looking over the endless beauty of the delicately manicured vineyards is a sight to feast on. And of course, to pair with that feast, the fall colors sprinkled on the vines are just as gently intoxicating as the wine beside you!
